Nollywood actor and politician, Desmond Elliot, has told the congregation of a church in Lagos that he is half Igbo because of his mother.
He made the declaration while soliciting for their votes in the March 18 state assembly election.
It has now become customary for politicians to visit churches to solicit for votes after Peter Obi’s sweeping wins in the February 25 presidential election.
Obi was criticised by many for his countless visits to churches where the congregations cheered and vowed their support for a new Nigeria through him.
Many have also condemned the Labour Party governorship candidate for Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour whose mother and wife are Igbo. Worried by his rising popularity following Obi’s performance in the election, many opponents insist that he will sell the state to his mother’s kinsmen if elected.
Obidients, sadly insist they are not swayed by the campaigns against their candidates.
Desmond is seen as a disappointment by many following his comments after the EndSARS protest. His constituents have also condemned his community development initiatives after he constructed a wooden bridge over a canal and donated a N200,000 public toilet.
On arrival in church on Sunday, the legislator and actor started speaking the Igbo language saying he was partly Igbo because of his mother and and there is nothing anybody can do about it.
