A 65-year-old pastor, Francis Ogwu, has been arrested for allegedly raping his 7-year-old house help in Awka, Anambra State.

The suspect, who is the general overseer of Jesus House of Joy Church, Awka, claimed that his wife frequently denied him s*x, saying she was fasting or doing night vigil.

According to the media aide to the State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, the suspect was arrested after residents in the neighborhood raised an alarm that he had been r*ping the girl child.

The survivor alleged that the suspect had raped her three times and gifted her between N500 and N1000.

In a video clip uploaded on Facebook, the suspect denied r*ping the survivor, claiming that he only fingered her once. He attributed his actions to the devil’s influence, stating that his wife’s frequent denial of s*x led him to seek comfort elsewhere.

The suspect’s wife, however, claimed she was not aware of her husband’s actions and refused to comment on his allegations that she frequently denied him s*x.

The commissioner for women and social welfare, Ify Obinabo, has condemned the act, promising to ensure justice is served. The suspect is currently in custody, facing charges for child r*pe.
