"Gist"

A Pastor, Dele Adewale has told the Customary Court in Igando, Lagos how his wife of 23 years beats him up and poisoned his food twice.

He stated that he was forced to abandon his home due to the constant threat to his life as his wife wanted him dead.

According to to Pastor Adewale, “She poisoned my food twice. My wife forced me to abandon my house due to her threat to kill me.

She is violent in nature. She hits me.

The wife, Favor, however, denied ever hitting her husband or poisoning him stating that her husband abandoned her and their 4 children for 2 years.

According to her, “I never poisoned his food or hit him.”

The President of the court, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye dissolved the union citing incompatibility.

He said, “The court has come to the conclusion that the marriage between the couple had broken down irretrievable, therefore, the dissolution of their marriage is needful.

“It is proper for both parties to go their separate ways since they are tired of their marriage while efforts to reconcile them failed.

The court hereby pronounces the marriage between Dele and Favor Adewale dissolved today. Both of you henceforth cease to be husband and wife.”

The President of the court then granted custody of the third and fourth children to the wife with a monthly allowance of N10,000 for their upkeep.

He also asked Adewale to pay Favor a severance package of N150,000 and N200,000 to help her get an apartment.
