N4 Billion Gift From Magu, Osinbajo Sues Blogger

N4 Billion Gift From Magu, Osinbajo Sues Blogger

News - Women's Perspective

Lawyers to Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have petitioned the Inspector General of Police over allegations from a blogger that he was gifted with N4 billion by embattled Ibrahim Magu.

Osinbajo wants the Inspector General of Police to commence a full scale investigation into the allegations of the blogger Jackson Udeh.

According to Jackson Udeh of Point Blank News, the N4 billion was part of the N39 billion that the the former Acting Chairman of the EFCC is alleged to have looted.

The blogger also alleges that because of this, Magu is pleading for a soft landing from the presidential panel set up to probe him.

Lawyers to Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Bayo Osipitan & Co describe the allegations in a letter dated 8th July, 2020 as weighty, vicious and malicious. The letter adds that the allegation is meant to paint Osinbajo as a dishonest and disloyal public servant who is unfit to hold the office of Vice President.

News of the alleged N4 billion gift surfaced as the former acting EFCC boss was placed on suspension for allegations bordering of monumental corruption and insubordination.

However, in another article titled “VP Osinbajo and His Quest for Criminal Defamation,” Point Blank News appears to double down on its allegations.

They caution the Vice President saying that:

“As a lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), methinks Vice President Yemi Osinbajo should be mindful of how far he can go with his petition to the police against Jackson Ude of Point Blank News.

“…the only option available to the Vice President or anyone who feels defamed by any publication is to sue for libel and defamation of character.

“This is purely a civil matter, not criminal.”
