Widow of late Ifeanyi Okereke, the newspaper vendor slain by the bullet of the security aide to the Speaker of the House of Reps has disowned her in-laws.
Josephine Okereke denied the in-laws following their demand for a N500 million compensation over the death of her husband.
She added that in addition, she was not carried along with the litigation proceedings and was shocked to hear about it.
The Abuja newspaper vendors association also distanced themselves from the position of the family saying they preferred that the erring security aide be made to answer for his over-zealousness.
Josephine Okereke’s in-laws, Okorie Okere, Ifeanyi’s father and Destiny Okereke, younger brother had instructed the family lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) to make the demand on behalf of the family.
Ozekhome, on behalf of the family said the the “modest” amount could in now way make up for the loss of their son and breadwinner.
The speaker also suspended Hassan from his convoy.
The widow insists that she is not aware of the legal proceedings and asked Speaker Gbajabiamila to ignore the demand for N500 million compensation and focus on fulfilling his promise to cater for her and her two children.
Gbajabiamila personally visited late Okereke’s family and vowed to ensure he fills the gap left by the deceased as much as he could.
Abdulahi Hassan, the Department of State Security (DSS) operative who shot an killed Ifeanyi was last week, arrested for investigation and judicial processes.
