The new Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Prof Ibrahim Gambari has spoken about his his appointment for the first time.
He spoke after attending his first Federal Execitive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday. The meeting was hosted in virtual mode in observance of the social distancing rule.
The New Chief of Staff (CoS) was introduced to other members of FEC by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.
When questioned by journalists after the meeting about what Nigerians should expect from him, Ibrahim Gambari responded, “I think you should ask the president.”
He added that he is first and foremost a personal staff of the president. According to him, “I have not started, so I will find out…I don’t report directly to the nation, I report directly to the president.
The journalists then asked the astute diplomat what he has to offer President Muhammadu Buhari. He responded: “My loyalty, competence and support…I think he needs my loyalty, competence and support.”
Gambari was Nigeria’s External Affairs Minister between 1984 and 1985. He has held many international diplomatic appointments. Among his former positions are: President of UNICEF; UN Under Secretary-General as well several other United Nations and Africa Union appointments.
The new Chief of Staff replaces Abba Kyari who died of #COVID19 in April 2020.
