The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced a new deadline for the National Identity Number (NIN) registration across the country.
The new date is the 9th of February, 2021 instead of the 19th of February, 2021.
The latest deadline was posted in the Commission’s Twitter page last night.
NIMC expressed satisfaction with what it described as “Nigerians’ impressive response” so far.
It said that over 47.8 million NINs have been collected by the telecoms operators already.
There has however, been panic among telecoms subscribers who trouped out in hundreds of thousands at the NIMC offices across the country to beat the deadline.
The Commission has cautioned the the new deadline is sacrosanct while the Nigeria Communications Commission said that telecoms operators ave been told to block SIMs not linked with the corresponding NIN after the new date.
