Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has been replaced by Dr Monica Eimunjeze.
Eimunjeze’s appointment in acting capacity comes on the heels of the expiration of the tenure of Professor Mojisola Adeyeye.
The development was confirmed by a senior staff in the agency who spoke with Newsmen on Thursday evening.
The source, however, disclosed that they have not yet held a meeting with the acting DG who has taken over the leadership role in the agency.
The source said, “The most senior director, Monica, took over. But we have not had a meeting with her because it happened this evening.”
President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Adeyeye as the DG of NAFDAC on November 3, 2017.
In a leaked internal memo signed by the agency’s Director of Human Resources Management, Oboli A.U, and dated 17 November, directors of various units and departments were notified of the appointment of Monica Eimunjeze as the acting director-general.
The memo, with reference number NAFDAC/ADM/SM/075, has as its subject: “Appointment of Acting Director General NAFDAC.”
It reads in part, “The management receives a letter appointing Dr Monica Eimunjeze as the Acting Director General NAFDAC with effect from 12th November 2022.
“I am therefore directed to bring this development to you for information and guidance.”
