A new information has emerged about Abdulmalik Tanko, the kidnapper and killer of pretty 5-year-old Hanifa Abubakar.
Tanko is the proprietor of Noble Kids Academy Nursery and Primary School, Kwanar Dakata in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
He confessed to have kidnapped the toddler from the school where she was a pupil and confessed to have fed her with rat poison the moment she recognised him.
This happened after he demanded a N6 million ransom from her parents who were only able to pay N100,000.
The lethal chemical killed Hanifa and Tanko told newsmen that he had to bury her in his school compound as he had nowhere else to take her remains to.
A resident of the community told Daily Trust that the suspect was initially sacked from a private school, Ese Inoh International School in Tudun Wada over an alleged misappropriation of funds.
The resident added that Tanko was a teacher and later the headmaster of the school before he was sent packing.
Having settled the case of missing funds at a police station in the area, Tanko relocated to Tudun Murtala, the resident said.
In his words, “After he was sacked from the school, he served as a headmaster, on alleged misappropriation of funds, he then settled in Tudun Murtala where he established a school, North West.
“As the business boomed, he now rented a house in Kwanar Dakata in Yakanba and established another school called Noble Kids Academy Nursery and Primary School from where the kid was abducted.”
The resident added that Tanko left his wife in charge of North West School and concentrated on Nobel Kids Academy Nursery and Primary School, Kwara Dakata.
He added that the suspect was elusive and had difficulty communicating or socialising.
According to him, “Tanko hardly associated with people and neighbours as his house was always locked. He was always quiet and seemed brooding.”
