The Federal Government has announced the date for the resumption of international flights, COVID19 notwithstanding.
August the 29th, 2020 has been fixed for the nation’s international travellers to commence their flights from Nigeria’s international airports.
Initial flights will begin at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika made the announcement on the micro-blogging site, twitter this evening, 17th August. He ceased the opportunity to thank Nigerians for their patience while the ban lasted.
Sirika explained that the process for the resumption of flights will be similar to that of the domestic flight resumption. However, he added that details of the processes and protocols will be announced in due course.
According to him:
“Glad to announce the resumption of international flights from the 29th of August, 2020. Beginning with Lagos and Abuja as we did with the domestic flight resumption. Protocols and procedures will be announced in due course. We thank you for your patience.”
“Just like we did with the domestic (flights resumption), it will start with Lagos and Abuja. The protocols, procedures and processes will be announced in due course.”
Following the confirmation of the date for the resumption of the international flights, many Nigerians immediately began appreciating the development especially those who have very urgent reasons to travel abroad.
They range from those who are either stuck abroad or back home, through those who loved loved ones to covid19 to students who must return to school.
