Jihad Analytics has announced in its latest report that Nigeria has overtaken Iraq as the number 1 Country with the most Islamic States (IS) attacks.
Jihad Analytics is a consultancy company which processes data on global and cyber jihad.
It stated that half of the attacks claimed by IS since the beginning of 2022 were in Africa and that Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP), an affiliate of IS, now carries out more attacks in Nigeria.
According to the report, Nigeria recorded a total of 162 IS operations since January 2022, with Iraq recording 120.
In a post on Twitter on Friday, Jihad Analytics wrote: “Since the beginning of the year, the Islamic State has conducted half of its attacks in #Africa.
“For the first time in the history of the jihadi group, Iraq is no longer the country where #IS claims the highest number of operations: the group #ISWAP is now more active in Nigeria.”
Since ISWAP broke out of Boko Haram, it has unleashed terror in Nigeria’s North-East with number of casualties rising daily.
The deadly group attacks have claimed thousands of lives, leaving many homeless.
ISWAP, which operates from the Lake Chad region of Nigeria, has carried out attacks on military installations.
The group is also reported to attack the deadly Boko Haram insurgents previously headed by the late Abubakar Shekau.
