Nigeria, today, received its own consignment of the AstraZeneca/Oxford Covid19 Vaccines from Covax.
The doses approved by NAFDAC arrived Nigeria today, March 2nd, 2021 in an Emirates airline.
DR Osagie Ehanire, Nigeria’s Minister of Health; Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, National Coordinator of NCDC; Dr Faisal Shuaib, Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) were at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to receive the vaccine consignment.
3.92 million doses were received today as part of the first wave of arrivals in Nigeria. The deliveries will continue in the coming days and weeks.
Covax is a Gavi led initiative in collaboration with Vaccine Alliance and the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Coalition for Epidermic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).
The group is collaborating with UNICEF, World Bank, manufacturers and civil society organisations.
According to the UN, the arrival of this consignment is a step towards its objective of equitable distribution of Covid19 vaccines globally.
The project is said to be the largest vaccine procurement and supply in human history.
