Nigeria has signed a “new landmark agreement” with the UK that seeks to “increase the deportation of dangerous foreign criminals to make the streets” of the European country safer.
British Home Secretary, Priti Patel announced on Twitter the establishment of the new immigration agreement with the Nigerian government.
The 2 countries seek to collaborate to fight illegal immigration, which Patel noted will “take the fight to the criminal people smugglers.” She noted that together with Nigeria, the UK will tackle illegal migration.
She describe as wholistic, the agreement that seeks to also make it possible to promote “shared bilateral economic interests”.
The British government recently came under heavy criticism over its migration policy, establishing a controversial partnership with Rwanda to send asylum seekers to the African country while their cases are considered.
At the last minute, the departure of the first migrants for Kigali was finally canceled by a decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
Priti Patel tweeted on Thursday night that: Our new landmark agreement with Nigeria will increase the deportation of dangerous foreign criminals to make our streets & country safer. And take the fight to the criminal people smugglers together to tackle illegal migration. Our #NewPlanForImmigration in action.
