Nigerian Diplomat Protests as China Rounds up Nigerians in the Country

News - Women's Perspective

A Nigerian Diplomat in China has protested the treatment meted out to Nigerians living in that country.

It is reported that a few days ago China rounded up Nigerians living in that country for forced quarantine and covid-19 tests.

A viral video of the Nigerian diplomat expressing his frustration about the discriminatory treatment of Nigerians.

He demanded the Chinese authorities to release Nigerians whom they forcefully quarantined for 14 days over suspicions of coronavirus.

Notwithstanding, Nigerians resident in that country complied. They were all tested for disease, observed for the recommended 14 days and given clearance letters.

The unnamed diplomat said that it was infringing on diplomatic protocols to incarcerate Nigerians for another 14 days without informing the High Commission in China.

To make matters worse, Nigerian passports were ceased from the its citizens while they were in quarantine. This for him amounts to ceasing the entire Nigeria because the passports do not belong to the individuals carrying them but to Nigeria as a country.

The diplomat regretted that Chinese get red carpet treatment when they come to Nigeria and demanded why the same cannot be said of Nigerians in that country.
