Nigerian Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia is reported to have been attacked yesterday, 25th June by hoodlums suspected to be Nigerians.
News of the the unfortunate development was gathered from the official Twitter handle of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama.
According to him,
Geoffrey Onyeama
“Absolutely deplorable and disgraceful criminal behaviour by Nigerian hooligans who without justification attacked the Nigerian Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia today.
“Every effort will be made to identify them and see they are severely punished. Totally unacceptable behaviour.”
Reports however, say that Nigerians in Indonesia are daily subjected to inhuman treatment by the the citizens of that country as well as their security agents. The situation became worse with the covid19 pandemic when te immigration officials dealt them the most unimaginable inhuman treatment.
Several responses to the minister’s complaints point to the fact that the alleged attack on the Nigerian Embassy in Jakarta is directly linked to the frustration and discrimination that Nigerians face daily.
They also decry the nonchalance of successive Nigerian governments to the plight of its citizens in Indonesia.
Replying to @GeoffreyOnyeama@Jegus_official said,
“Even though it’s shameful and disgraceful but the government need to evacuate this guys. They are suffering and tired of what the Indonesia immigration is doing for them. One of them died two days ago, please our embassies need to be more active sir @abikedabiri”
According to Glory Benjammin
“Sir. Before you condemn them, I am a Nigerian who lived in Asia for five years between Yar’Adua and Goodluck’s tenures. I am witness to the fact Nigeria doesn’t care for its people both within and outside the country. I’ve seen it so I’m not just talking.”
