Nigerian Medical Doctor Dies of Covid-19

A Nigerian Medical Doctor has died of coronavirus disease.

A former doctor in LUTH, 60-year old Dr Chugbo Emeka is the first Nigerian medical doctor  to die of the killer virus disease in Nigeria. According to reports, he had managed a covid-19 patient in his clinic before contracting it. The patient also died last week.

However, a health worker in the Northern part of the country, Aliyu Yakubu died of coronavirus disease on Saturday.

Diector of LUTH, professor Bode Chris confirmed the tragic incident. According to him, Doctor Chugbo was brought into LUTH on Monday this week, with severe covid-19 symptoms of covid-19.

At the the time of his his death, he was into private medical practice with specialty in  Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He was once the Vice President of the National Association of Resident Doctors in LUTH.

 

A friend of his, Lawal Oyeneyin is reported to say that Chugbo had asthma.

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has been thrown into mourning since the news broke. They have equally commiserated with the late doctor’s family as well as medical practitioners all over the country.

Nonetheless, the NMA through its president, Dr Francis Fajuyile has advised Nigerian medical doctor s to test every new patient for covid-19 before admitting them.
