As with most ceremonies attended by women of South West Nigeria, many were spotted rocking aso ebi at the Funeral service of late Queen Elizabeth on Monday at the Hyde Park Corner in London.
Aso Ebi is has grown to become widely accepted across Nigeria and has been adopted by people of other ethnic groups for most festivities.
British-born Nigerian community leader based in London, Dayo Olomu, posed with some women dressed in aso ebi.
He posted a photo taken with them on Facebook and said, “Nigerian ladies honouring the Queen in their beautiful African aso ebi attires.
“These my sisters were the cynosure of all eyes at the funeral service of Her Majesty at Hyde Park Corner.”
Queen Elizabeth died on September 8 at Balmoral, Scotland at the age of 96. She was Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, serving for over seven decades.
Scores of world leaders gathered in London for her funeral. While every other world leader was ferried to Buckingham Palace in buses, US President Joe Biden was the only one allowed to arrive at the palace in his motorcade called The Beast.
Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo attended the funeral dressed in black agbada. He posed for photographs with some African leaders and also Britain’s former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
