'Enough With the Record-a-Thons' - Guinness World Records Tells Nigerians

Nigerians React as Guinness World Records Lists Guidelines for Setting New World Record

News - Women's Perspective

As many Nigerians jump into the band wagon of those trying to beat Hilda Baci in her celebrated cooking marathon, Guinness World Records (GWR) has published the guidelines for setting a new record.

Yesterday, a Nigerian lady Joyce Ijeoma collapsed while attempting to set a 72-hour record for the longest massage session, She could only get a 50-hour record.

She collapsed during a massage session which was recorded live on social media.

According to GWR, “To become a record-holder requires determination, extraordinary skills and commitment. Before applying for an existing record, check the current information and make sure you’ve got what it takes to break the record. If you are suggesting a new record idea, we recommend that you spend some time searching our current records to see what may already have been achieved in your area of expertise.

Every newly approved record idea has to be significantly different from existing records and demonstrate a completely new skill. Being the first to suggest a record does not immediately qualify for acceptance, with around 60% of applications for new records being rejected. However, we are always looking for new exciting ideas to reflect the world’s diversity.

“Ahead of applying, have a look at the key steps to follow.”

GWR released a link detailing the process a person can apply for a record to be broken. Reacting to the post, Nigerians stated that the GWR was indirectly talking to Nigerians.
