The 104 Unity Colleges in Nigeria are set to reopen classes for students in the exit classes of JSS3 and SS3.
Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba gave the update yesterday through the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Ben Goong.
The assurances were given at a Zoom meeting with the Commissioners of Education of the 36 states of the federation.
The ministry commended principals of schools for all the measures put in place to ensure all the requirements for resumption were effected.
Speaking on behalf of the ministry, Goong said that “from today (Monday), the Honouable Minister of Education, Permanent Secretary, and Directors will embark on an assessment tour of all Unity Colleges to ascertain and confirm the reports they have received from the principals of Unity Colleges.
“Federal Education Quality Assurance Directors deployed to the states have been directed to monitor compliance in their respective states.
“Honourable Commissioners from the States were enjoined to embark on assessment tours in their jurisdictions to ascertain the level of preparations for reopening.
Emeka_nwajiuba added that while most unity colleges are set to reopen today, Tuesday, others would continue to fine-tune their preparedness in a few days before reopening.
The Minister advised that all returning students should undergo temperature checks as well as other health guidelines before being admitted into their schools.
The Students in the exit classes include those taking the SSCE, NECO (for SS3 students) and National Business and Technical Examination Board Examinations.
Others are the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) for JSS3 students and the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) for primary school applicants intending to gain admission into Unity Colleges.
