Workers of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have agreed to suspend the strike action they embarked on.
The workers embarked on an industrial action on Thursday to press home demands for better working conditions.
They complained in particular, about their fear of exposure to covid19 as mammoth crowds throng their offices across the country to carry out their National Identity Number (NIN) registration.
The workers announced their decision to put the industrial action on hold following an agreement reached with the Federal Government that their demands will be addressed.
President of the Association of Civil Servants Lucy Asekokhai confirmed the development on Friday.
He added that workers of the commission will be contacted to resume work by Monday so they can continue with NIN registration exercise.
An official statement was also released by the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy advising the NIMC workers that their demands will be addressed
Large numbers of people have continued to visit the various NIMC offices as the deadline given by the Federal Government to all telecoms operators to block all Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) that have not been linked to the owners’ NINs approaches.
The exercise has been largely chaotic with no regard to health safety protocols even as number of new infections climb daily and hospitals struggle to handle the influx of patients.
Some NIMC workers complain that their colleagues are already sick with covid19 and their salaries and allowances could hardly cover their medical expenses.
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, @DrIsaPantami explained the confusion about the deadline for linking SIMs with NIN when he appeared on Channels Television on Friday.
