Nine of the abducted victims of the Federal Government College (FGC), Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State have been rescued.
The update was given on Friday by Rabiu Kamba, a Special Adviser to the State Governor, Abubakar Bagudu.
Bandits stormed the school around 12:30 on Thursday and abducted a yet to be ascertained number of students.
Kamba revealed that the nine lucky captives comprise eight students and one teacher who were rescued by the military.
He added that arrangements have been made to hand the victims over to the government in order to reunite them with their families.
According to him, “A teacher and eight students were rescued by the military. They are at present in the custody of the military in Dirin Daji. The government will soon receive them for a reunion with their families.”
The military had earlier today, engaged the bandits in a gun battle which resulted in the death of one of the students caught in the cross fire.
Air Commodore Abubakar Abdulkadir, Deputy Force Commander of the Joint Task Force in the North-West Zone, confirmed the incident to reporters in Zamfara State on Friday.
