The trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) recommenced today with a British Envoy and an ex-Governor of Anambra State in attendance.
The proceedings are taking place at the Federal High Court in Abuja with ex-Governor Chukuwemeka Ezeife and the British envoy watching closely.
The envoy arrived at about 8:30am in a white Toyota Highlander while Ezeife came in the company of Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor.
The IPOB leader was rearrested in Kenya after he allegedly jumped bail and fled the country to the UK years back.
The Kenyan government extradited him back to Nigeria after he was apprehended at its international airport on the 27th of June, 2021.
The separatist leader was then arraigned before Justice Binta Nyako who ordered his remand in the custody of the DSS until his next trial dates which were July 26 and 27.
However, the DSS failed to produce the Biafra activist in court on the said date citing logistics reasons, hence the postponement of the trial to today.
Kanu holds a British citizenship and is facing charges of treasonable felony and terrorism levelled against him by the Federal Government of Nigeria,
