Nollywood was, this week thrown into mourning again after 2 of its veterans passed on.

The Nation newspaper reports that seasoned actor and filmmaker, Yinka Ogundaisi’s death was announced by Ropo Ewenla in a WhatsApp message to members of the Ibadan Film Circle (IFC), a group the late filmmaker/film marker belonged to.

The message read: “Today, this morning, one phase of history came to an end. Erin ti wo. The elephant rises no more. Yinka Ogundaisi bid this world farewell at dawn. It was Kate Adepegba who dropped the bomb on my lap. I called Uncle Yinka’s number to confirm and rudely, it was so.”

The actor had battled a protracted illness and even sought funding publicly.

In another development, the movie industry was also thrown into mourning after a notable filmmaker, Wale Fanu also died.

Jide Bisayo, an associate of the late filmmaker announced the tragic incident on Sunday, June 12.

Before his death, the 72-year-old veteran, who lived with sickle cell, was the managing director of one of the foremost production houses in Nollywood, Cinekraft.

Announcing the death of the veteran filmmaker, Bisayo noted that Cinekraft contributed to the birth of Nollywood.

Busayo wrote, “In the beginning while Nollywood was still an embryo, there was CINEKRAFT. Cinekraft in no small way contributed to the birthing of the nascent industry.

Behind Cinekraft administration and production management was one indefatigable, never tiring creative soul, my boss, Wale Fanu. Uncle Wales (as I like calling you), rest in the bosom of the Lord.

“A titan has gone home indeed!”
