The Lagos State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has opened up on reports that it plans to stage a protest in the state.
The State Secretary, Oluwaseyi Bankole, in an address to newsmen on Tuesday, denied any such plan.
He debunked rumours of the widely circulated message of a planned protest by members of the transport union in various areas in the state.
The message had alerted members of the public to be wary of a possible breakdown of law and order due to the supposed planned protest by members of the transport union in the state.
In his reaction, Bankole asked Lagosians to ignore the message, saying that the state union does not have any such plan.
According to the NURTW scribe, members of the union would abide by the directives of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who had earlier banned the activities of members.
In the words of the Secretary, “Our attention has been drawn to a protest rumored to be from the members of the NURTW of the Lagos State Chapter.
“We want to categorically tell the general public that this is not true and that the people that are supposedly protesting are not recognized nor legal members of our union because we are abiding by the order given by the Governor of Lagos State.
“The general public is therefore advised to go about their daily activities without fear and whosoever that is found disturbing the peace and order in the state should be dealt with accordingly.”
Concerned residents have however, continued to call on commuters to be extra vigilante as they go about their lawful activities.
