Nwokocha, Nigeria’s Last Hope for Olympic Women’s Medal Knocked Out

Nigeria records another setback as Grace Nwokocha, its last hope for for the Tokyo Olympic women’s 100m medal has been knocked out.

This comes after Blessing Okagbare, one of the underdogs for the 100m final was suspended for doping on Saturday (July 31st).

Okagbare (32) tested positive for growth hormone.

She becomes the first athlete declared positive during the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Okagbare and Nwokocha had qualified for the semifinals on Friday, the 30th of July, giving Nigeria hope of winning a medal. Sadly, Nwokocha crashed out on Saturday after finishing 5th in het 3 of women’s 100m semi-finals with a time of 11.07 seconds.

She would have competed against the legendry Jamaican and current world fasted female sprinter, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica in heat 5.

Tha latter who is chasing a 3rd gold medal in the world sports even made it into the final at Tokyo’s Olympic Stadium with a time of 10.7 seconds, the fastest time of the semi-finals.
