Chuks Ohuegbe, Director of Publication at the Pilot newspaper has requested that the same standards applied to Kemi Adeosun, former Finance Minister, should also be applied to Hannatu Musawa, the newly sworn in Minister for Arts and Culture.
He gave the advice during an interview on AIT’s Kakaaki program when he was asked to comment on the alleged NYSC controversy surrounding Hannatu Musawa.
Ohuegbe noted that Hannatu should provide her credentials to the media as proof of her completion of the NYSC. He said that during her screening, Hannatu’s academic credentials were not thoroughly examined, and despite this, Senator Akpabio allowed her to proceed without due scrutiny. However, Chuks noted that the DSS had screened and cleared her.
Chuks further highlighted that this situation isn’t unprecedented, citing the example of Kemi Adeosun, the former Finance Minister. He explained that Kemi Adeosun had also not completed her NYSC, and when this came to light after her appointment as a minister, she resigned due to media scrutiny.
Chuks emphasized that if Musawa is facing a similar problem and is currently in service, she cannot continue as a minister.
Concluding his statement, Chuks Ohuegbe summed up his viewpoint, saying, “The same principles that applied to Kemi Adeosun should also apply to Musawa.”
