A report has emerged that businessman Obi Cubana has not been set free by the EFCC as widely assumed on Tuesday.
News had emerged that the socialite was set free followed by posts from him and his close friend and associate, Lucky Luciano, Cubana Prime Minister.
Obi Cubana had thanked all his fans for their support via an Instagram post while Lucky Luciano posted that, “Victory At Last. @obi_cubana Who the son of man set free is Free indeed #MANOFTHEYEAR #okpataozueora1
However, SaharaReporters revealed on Wednesday morning that the billionaire businessman is still in the custody of the EFCC and has only been granted administrative bail.
The report said that the bail is customary of the anti-graft agency after holding an individual for 24 hours.
A source in the EFCC is quoted as telling the media house that Obi Cubana “has not been released yet contrary to reports.”
Punch also reports that his passport has been seized to prevent him from leaving the country while still under investigation.
According to Punch, “Obi Cubana has not been released, he is still having quality sessions with investigators over alleged money laundering running into millions of Naira and tax fraud.
“He will be released when he has satisfactorily responded to all questions relating to his involvement in various illegal deals. As part of investigations, his travel document has been temporarily seized pending the conclusion of investigations,” a source in the Commission is quoted as saying.
The anti-graft agency spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, also told Punch that Obi Cubana is still in custody but said he has no information regarding his seized passport.
The 46-year-old billionaire who hails from Anambra State is said to be into the hospitality and entertainment business.
He is reputed for the lavish funeral he held for for his late mother in July sparking speculations about the source of his wealth.
He took time to explain how he grew his wealth, narratives that his close friends corroborate.
