Chidi
Following the mixed reactions that trailed his now-viral ‘next of kin’ video, Chidi, the adopted son of Nigerian billionaire businessman Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has taken action on his TikTok account.
Chidi caused controversy on social media recently after he shared a video on TikTok, claiming to be next in line to receive an inheritance from the billionaire.

In what looked like a response to the viral video, Obi Cubana posted a picture with his biological first son, Alex, on his official Instagram page, calling him ‘next of kin’.
Obi Cubana’s public clarification sparked mixed reactions online, with some netizens feeling that he was right to address the controversy directly.
However, others argued that the wealthy businessman should have handled the issue privately, saying going public about it would only create more drama. Amid the backlash, Chidi has deleted the video and also disabled the comments section on his TikTok page.
bi Cubana’s adopted son Chidi locks his comments section on TikTok amid the controversy over his ‘next of kin’ video.
His most recent post on the video-sharing platform remains a clip from Obi Cubana’s 50th birthday celebration, which took place recently. Chidi also shared an Instagram post on April 23 with the pleading or praying hands emoji as a caption.
Amid the report of Chidi locking his comments section, Nigerians have continued to share their takes about the video.
The reactions:
zinny_cleo: Even tho it’s petty of him to debunk this, but omo the adopted son shouldn’t have posted something like this online. Cos this might breed room for unnecessary sibling rivalry.”
eves_classichaircollections: “It’s very good he did this before the adopted son starts feeling entitled.”
ngaladiiya: “When I saw chidi post on tiktok and obi post with him tagging his first son I just said hmmmmm.”
oyindamolandidi: “When he reach you turn sweep it under the carpet say na cruise.”
chimelanick: “Owner of wealth say make he speak up now before it too late. Let me tell you something…”
_lily_among_thorns_: “A billionaire adopted you. For me, that’s enough o. What do you need next of kin for? You have the means to make in life already.”
naijaclipsbackup: “I think it should have been handled internally. Anyways, what do I know.”
The founder of Fabmumng, Jayne Augoye, has shed light on the trending topic of next of kin amid the case of Obi Cubana and his adopted son, Chidi.
She explained that the term ‘next of kin’ has nothing to do with whether the listed person will share the man’s inheritance and said many Nigerians did not understand the term fully.
“Next of kin means the next point of contact in the case of an emergency, someone to contact, for example, in cases of an accident or someone to sign in case the other person needs to undergo an emergency surgery. It has nothing to do with inheritance at all. Your child might not be old enough to decide for you in the case of an emergency.”
Further speaking, the founder of Fabmumng said that a next of kin might not even be a beneficiary of an inheritance.
“In a will/inheritance, one can decide to include their next of kin as a beneficiary, but that decision must be signed by a lawyer while he/she is still alive. It is not automatic.”
Addressing Obi Cubana and Chidi’s case, she said: “There is an uproar in the case of Obi Cubana because he is a billionaire, and many are already thinking about who will inherit his billions. People need to know better.
“Your next of kin should be someone old enough to decide and sign legal documents in the case of an emergency. He may not even be a blood relative.”
