Voting in the primary election was held at Chuba Ikpeazu Township Stadium in Onitsha.

Mrs Obiano polled 152 votes, while Odili got 120 votes. Two other aspirants, Junior Onwuteaka and Tony Nnacheta each got 2 votes.

The primary election was moved to Sunday after violence erupted at Otuocha Stadium in Anambra East Local Government Area on Saturday forcing the committee to relocate.
