The supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, have defied the rain and disobeyed the order of the court to hold a rally at the Lekki toll gate.
The youths in their thousands converged on the Lekki Toll plaza waving the Nigerian flag and Labour Party banners regardless of the presence of heavily armed police men.
The court had ruled on Wednesday that the mainly youth members were only allowed to pass through the toll gate but must not hold their rally at the venue.
Other supporters of the Labour Party, according to available reports, were seen marching through, apple junction, Festac and environs in the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos.
Meanwhile, ‘Take Back Naija’, a coalition of support groups, said that the Federal High Court in the state did not stop the March, as they got permission to go ahead and conduct the march.
The Co-ordinator of the group, Martins Udegbunam at a press conference on Friday said the court instructed Obi supporters not to converge at the Tollgate but they can pass through the gate.
He seized the opportunity to invite everyone to join the march at any of the three locations across Lagos, Festac, Federal Housing Authority(FHA), Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1 and Arch Bishop Vin Church, Ikeja.
“Our march is legal and constitutional, it is within the electoral time frame and calendar released by INEC and all security agencies have been duly and formally informed using the appropriate means. The police, NSCDC, Road safety, and DSS, will be on ground to provide security as we march,” he added.
Weighing in Comrade Deji Adeyanju cautioned the Lagos State authorities on any attempt to stop the supporters. He said: “The security agencies in Lagos must not do anything whatsoever to stop the Obidents rally in Lagos. The court order on this subject matter is very clear. Protest is a fundamental right.”
