Major cities of of Delta State especially major towns in the Ika Local Government Area are on lockdown as Obidients, supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi trooped out in their numbers.
The solidarity rally is currently holding in Agbor, Abudu, Igbodo and Umunede to show their support for Obi ahead of the 2023 election.
The Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa is from Ika Local Government Area. It was therefore curious than opposition party supporters would hit the streets in their thousands without any form of financial inducements.
One of the coordinators of the rally, Joseph Itodo said that police were on ground with the participants, adding that it was mostly peaceful.
In his words; โThat people contributed to make this rally a success shows that Nigeria will be great again. Honestly, this movement has united Nigerians more than ever, we had security agents on ground because we wrote to the commissioner of police, he approved and we had policemen and other security agencies with us.โ
Similar rallies have held in Lagos, Auchi (Edo State), Abeokuta (Ogun State) Makurdi (Benue State) Afikpo (Ebonyi State), Onistha (Anambra State), Port Harcourt (Rivers) and Enugu (Enugu state), Bauchi, Zaria, Jos etc.
