Ogun Schools to Reopen on 21st September

The Ogun State government today, announced that schools in the state will reopen the 21st of September.

It added that it will stagger the opening and closing hours for primary and secondary schools.

Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor Kunle Somorin gave the details on Monday, 7th September. According to him, early child care development and education classes (ages 3 to 5) will not reopen until the next phase of school resumption.

In his words, “this second phase of the reopening of schools is extended to all classes in primary and secondary schools, Technical and Vocational Colleges and Tertiary institutions.”

Somorin also said that primaries one to three pupils will resume for only 3 hours between 8:00am and 11:00am; primaries four to 6 pupils will resume by 12:00pm and close at 3:00pm.

The Chief Press Secretary added that Junior Secondary School one to three pupils will be in class between 8:00am and 11:00am while Senior Secondary School one to three pupils will attend classes between 12:00pm and 3:00pm.

He said that the staggered resumption was in addition to the class sessions of the SSS 3 students currently sitting for their final examinations.

Excerpts of the statement:

“Technical and vocational will operate their normal school hours of 8:00am to 2:00pm, early child care development education classes, three to five years of age will not be resuming in public schools until the next phase of schools’ reopening.

“Private schools are also expected to the necessary measures to meet the #COVID19  protocols for physical distancing among other requirements.

“Tertiary institutions are allowed to commence reopening from September 21 2020 as may be determined by their respective management. 

“It should be noted that the government had earlier announced that all students had been given an automatic promotion to the next class, including automatic placement for primary six students in public primary schools to JSS one of public secondary schools.

“However, primary six students desirous of placement into the state-owned boarding schools will sit for Common Entrance Examination on Saturday, September 12, 2020.

The hitherto JSS three students who have now been promoted to SS one will write their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in October, 2020.”
