Olumide Akpata is the new Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Chairman. He defeated 2 other candidates in the election held on Thursday, 29th of July.
The contestants, Babatunde Ajibade and Julius Adesina are both Senior Advocates of Nigeria.
Akpata who is not yet a SAN emerged winner with 1,002 votes which is 54.8% of the votes cast beating Ajibade who polled 808 votes and Adesina with 679 votes.
The 2020 Nigerian Bar Association Election (NBA) was conducted online with only accredited members voting.
Olumide Akpata is the former Chairman of the NBA’s Business Law section. He is an expert in corporate and commercial law.
Akpata has had 2 decades of Law practice in Nigeria advising clients on various aspects of he Nigerian Corporate and Commercial Law.
According to Templars where he is a partner, he is recognised by the ILFR 1000 as a leading Mergers and Acquisition Lawyer in Nigeria and as having long experience in representing foreign clients in his area of practice.
He has successfully assisted international firms acquire local subsidiaries and advises foreign firms on the impact of Nigeria Law on their investments and operations in the country.
Olumide Akpata is a regular speaker at local and international conferences and seminars. He is the current Vice Chairman West Africa of the International Bar Association, Africa Regional forum.
He takes over leadership of the NBA from Paul Usoro, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
