Omotola’s Experience with Covid19

Coronavirus Pandemic

Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has narrated her experience with covid19 about 1 week after taking ill and recovering.

She gave the details in an interview with the popular filmmakers’ WhatsApp group, Filmic. It was also an occasion for her to advise her colleagues on ways to adhere to #COVID19 health guidelines ahead of resumption of movie productions.

Omotola also revealed that she inadvertently infected her son and daughter with the disease and was treated by the very best of infectious diseases doctors.

She regretted that many people are carriers of the disease but since there is not enough testing, they readily attribute the symptoms to malaria, diarrhoea and other common ailments.

According to the actress, she started feeling unwell after leaving a movie set on Monday, 3rd of August. In her words:

“I hardly fall ill and so when I left the set and started having chills the next day or so, I knew something wasn’t right. I thought it might be stress. This was on Monday, August 3. I waited till Tuesday and it got worse. I was shaking uncontrollably and my temperature was going through the roof.

“My spirit told me this is not malaria or fever. I have been extremely careful and paranoid about this covid19 stuff. So I told my hubby I needed to be tested immediately. I have a son who has asthma.

Omotola said they got tested on Wednesday and by Thursday evening, the test result came out and they were positive.

“My world crashed. I felt crazy and empty.”

She narrated that her condition was dire with extremely high temperature and viral load equally so high. The doctors considered moving in to evacuate her.

“… but God arose for me. I went into isolation immediately. We got my result but my daughter started feeling funny. So they had to come test the whole family. I had infected my daughter and asthmatic son !

“My God showed up for me as my son is asymptomatic, so positive but not sick ! My daughter lost her smell and taste and had diarrhoea. All has stopped now, thank God.

“My husband and last son tested negative respectively. But we are now in remission…taking another test soon.”

Speaking further about her experience and recovery process, Omotola said that, “it’s physically, spiritually and emotionally exhausting as the doctors tell you it’s a 50/50 chance. Nothing you do really saves you. You can only take vitamins, manage the symptoms and hope your body fights.”
