Family and friends on Thursday, wept profusely as they gathered to pay their final respects to Solomon Adigun, a 31-year-old bachelor reportedly k!lled by herdsmen in Ogbomoso.
The latest gruesome m*rder is one of several in the escalating violence in the state, occurred on Adigun’s farm in Elemuye, within the Surulere Local Government Area.
Adigun, who had recently complained about the destruction of his father’s farm by herdsmen—during which a cow reportedly d!ed—was found stabbed to death on his farm.
His remains were laid to rest on Wednesday at the Ogbomoso Baptist Conference Cemetery at Aroje, along the old Ilorin road. The burial was attended by grieving family members, friends, and sympathizers.
A mourner, who preferred to remain anonymous, described Adigun as an easy-going and hardworking individual. “His death is devastating not only because we were close but also because he was a hardworking, nice person dedicated to the service of God. I am still in grief,” he said.
The sympathizer urged government authorities and security operatives to take action to prevent further violence. “It is getting out of hand. This year alone, I have heard about three deaths caused by these herdsmen in Ogbomoso.
“The government should protect us,” he pleaded. He also highlighted the increasing danger posed by herdsmen, mentioning that they now engage in theft and destruction with impunity.
“It is critical; the herdsmen now snatch okadas (motorcycles), destroy people’s farms with impunity, and attack people in their homes. Fulanis are k!lling a lot of people. Nigerians must rise before people resort to self-help.”
