One million-Dollar Capital, Two Nigerians in Ghana Attempt Suicide

Two Nigerian businessmen in Ghana have attempted suicide over Ghanaian government’s imposition of the one million-dollar ($1 million) equity imposed on them.

Both traders, According to Dabiri-Erewa are currently undergoing therapy.

The Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa made this revelation while regretting that attempts to engage the government of Ghana in meaningful discussions have not yielded the desired results.

Last week, this online news platform reported that 753 members of the Nigerian Union of Traders Association in Ghana presented a letter through NiDCOM, requesting to be evacuated back home.

Sadly, according to the General Secretary of All Nigerian Community, Ghana, Isaac Ekhator, some Nigerian traders are married to Ghanaians. They will not want to abandon their families to return home.

NiDCOM Chairman said that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Minister of Trade and Industry, Adeniyi Adebayo and some other Nigerian stakeholders are looking into the matter.

She however, pointed out that the Ghanaian presidential elections is scheduled for the 7th of December. The election according to her has be over before any meaningful discussions and agreements can hold.

Speaking during Channels Television’s ‘@sunrisedailynow‘ programme today, Dabiri-Erewa said that “Elections are coming. You know there is something political about this.

“Let’s face it, The President of Ghana will not want to go against his own citizens and majority of the Ghanaian traders have said they don’t want Nigerian Traders.

“Don’t let us decide ourselves, nothing will happen before December 7.

“There is nothing ECOWAS can achieve before the election. Election must be won or lost.”

“We don’t have a problem at the government level. We have a problem at the people level.

The government of Ghana as willingly said ‘Open these shops’ but the people are not complying.

I hope you know that three years ago, a Nigerian lady committed suicide. And as I speak with you, another two are on the verge of suicide but they are going through some kind of counselling with the message of hope that things will be better.”
