The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), today, stormed the streets of Abuja in protest over the proposed amendment of the minimum wage of workers by the National Assembly.
The protest kicked off as early as 7:30am from the Unity Fountain with large crowds of people who turned out in solidarity to demand that the National plans to move the minimum wage from the Exclusive Legislative List to the Concurrent Legislative List be dropped.
Other members of the organised labour in Nigeria joined the big two and is headed for the National Assembly to make their grievances known to the lawmakers.
Organised Labour had issued a warning Tuesday that it would commence a nationwide strike action by this morning, 10th March if the National Assembly refused to drop the proposal to move minimum wage issues from the exclusive to the concurrent legislative list.
While addressing the protesters, NLC President, Ayuba Wabba said that some governors and lawmakers are making moves to deny workers their right to enjoy minimum wage.
He told his colleagues that life would become extremely difficult for workers if the action of the legislators is not stopped.
