The Special Assistant on Social Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie, today, 8th July, during screening for the post of INEC Commissioner, denied membership of any political party.
The media aide made the denial while defending her eligibility for appointment as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
She stated her position when she appeared alongside other contenders before the Nigerian Senate for the commencement of the screening process.
Other candidates include:
- Prof Mohammed Sani, Prof Kunle Ajayi, Ekiti
- Saidu Ahmad, Jigawa
- Prof Muhammad Kallah, Katsina
- Dr Baba Bila, North East
- Prof Sani Adam, North Central
In the thick of the controversies on her nomination, Lauretta Onochie denied being a supporter of any party including the All Progressive Congress, the platform under which her principal, Muhammadu Buhari contested and won the presidential election twice.
Her position today, contradicts an oath she took before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in the Abuja judicial division, where she stated that she is actively engaged in politics and is a member of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
