Ooni of Ife Takes His Prince to Church for the First Time on 5th Year as Ooni

The Ooni of Ife, Ọ̀ọni Adeyẹ́yẹ̀ Ẹnitan Bàbátunde Ògúnwusi, Ọjàjà II started the commemoration of his 5th year on the throne with effect from the 4th of December, 2020.

He said his reign is dedicated to the youths who are the “leaders of today and tomorrow.”

He assured them that he feels their pain. His position was particularly made known during the #EndSARS protest when he hailed the youth for their courage to take on their future and demand better governance.

At the onset of events marking his 5th year anniversary, Ooni announced that “Yesterday marked 5 years that I ascended the Throne of my forbearers.

“It has been a journey of grace through the guidance of the Almighty.


“As I promised 5 years ago, my throne and Royal mission are unquestionably dedicated towards the youths as they are the leaders of today and tomorrow. Your struggles are my struggles and worries are my worries.”

To round up celebrations for the anniversary on Sunday, he took his family including Olori Silekuola Naomi and his young child that he named Prince “Tadenikawo, Adesoji, Aderemi, Eri-Ifeoluwasimi, Adeiwa, Inioluwa, Ademide, Adegbite, Diekoloreoluwa Ogunwusi Ojaja II to his family church.

Announcing the event, Ooni said, “With all glory to the most high for bringing me thus far on the throne of my forebears.

“I was in attendance at the root church of my family, St Paul’s Anglican Church, Ayegbaju, Ile-Ife today to give thanks to the almighty and round up activities celebrating my 5 years on the throne.”
