An accident occurred this morning at the Oshodi area of Lagos involving a train and a commercial bus.

The information was monitored on the official twitter handle of the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor reports that Gboyega Akosile:

“Update on train-passenger bus collision at Oshodi.
@lasemasocial received distress calls at 8.12 am. Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a passenger bus GGE 972 GE with six passengers had veered onto the train tracks while crossing the rail at PWD inward Oshodi.”
Reports also say that the the bus driver survived the accident in spite of the damage to his vehicle. The eight passengers in the bus with registration number GGE 972 GE also narrowly escaped being crushed.
An eyewitness said that the bus suddenly veered into the train tracks while crossing the road at PWD inward Oshodi and collided with the fast moving passenger train.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) was at the scene to manage the situation as soon as it received a distress call.

LASEMA in recovery operations as Train collides with Passenger Bus At Bolade Inward Oshodi The Agency received distress calls at 8.12 am concerning a multiple accident at Bolade infront of Nigerian Army Shopping Arena.

Upon the arrival of the Eagle Squad at the scene, it was discovered that a white colored bus with GGE 972 GE with six passengers and A Jeep highlander veered onto the train tracks while crossing the rail at PWD inward Oshodi and subsequently collided with a scheduled commuter train.

The bus and the Jeep were then dragged along for a stretch of the journey before the train managed to come to a complete halt. The Agency was able to successfully extricate the passengers and one life was lost . Casualties have been provided with on site medical care and discharged.

A 20 year old boy that sustained severeinjuries was taken to LASUTH for further treatment Members of the public, especially drivers of commuter buses are reminded to obey traffic regulations to prevent injuries and transport delays.

The wreckage of the bus has been safely removed to allow for free flow of commuter traffic.
