Osun Government Closes School After Bandits’ Attack

The Osun State government has announced its decision to shut down Ifeoluwa Grammar School Osogbo following a Tuesday attack by armed bandits.

Residents say the hoodlums stormed the school at about 11:45am armed with machetes and other dangerous weapons.

The operation caused pandemonium as staff and students scampered for safety. Unfortunately, one person sustained machette cuts and was rushed to a hospital.

Police responded early enough before more harm could be inflicted on other people.

An eyewitness reports that “Egbatedo boys numbering abut twenty invaded the school brandishing cutlasses and other weapons.

They snatched staff and pupils from the premises of the school because they were threatening to attack them. Reasons for the actions is not known.

“One person sustained machette cut and was taken to hospital before the arrival of the police to the scene. But the police arrested one of those hoodlums.,” the eyewitness said.

Mrs Yemisi Opalola, spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident saying that indeed, one of the bandits was arrested while the wounded is being closely monitored.

According to her, “Our men swiftly moved to the school that was invaded by armed youths, we arrested one of the suspects who was cut on his head and left arm. We took him to Osogbo Central Hospital for treatment and we are monitoring him closely.”

The Coordinating Director of the state Ministry of Education, Mrs Kehinde Olaniyan said in a statement today that following a directive from the State Commissioner for Education, the school will be closed down until further notice.
