The daughter of the ousted President of Afghanistan, Mariam Ghani was on Thursday, spotted taking a casual stroll on a Street in New York City.

This comes days after her father, Ashraf Ghani was ousted and fled the country in an helicopter on exile to Dubai. This follows the exit of US troups and the take over of the country by Taliban militants.

42-year-old Mariam was seen walking leisurely with a friend on Thursday, 19th of August while her father has been granted asylum by the Emirates.

He was granted asylum status on ‘humanitarian grounds’ and is alleged to have taken away $169 million in cash with him, an allegation that he denied.

New York Post reports that Mariam Ghani has been living in New York for many years residing in a luxury co-op in Brooklyn’s Clinton Hill neighbourhood.

A visual artist and filmmaker, she was born and raised in the US and spent her adult life launching an art and teaching career.

Miss Ghani’s work has been showcased in museums around the world, including Tate Modern in London and Guggenheim and MOMA in New York.

She studied at the New York University and the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. In 2018, she became a faculty member at Bennington College in Vermont.

Her Guggenheim biography says she grew up in ‘exile’ and was only able to travel to Afghanistan in 2002 when she was 24 years old.

Mariam Ghani took to her instagram account, @mostlywindows to appreciate every one who has shown cancern for her country and the plight of its citizens.

She also used the occasion to solicit more assistance.

According to her’

To everyone who has checked in and reached out in solidarity over the past days: thank you. It has meant a lot. I’m pretty burned out, but I hope I’ll be able to reply to you all individually at some point.

This post is a reply to the question many have asked: What can we do to help Afghans right now? If you are interested in coordinating on a letter campaign re: the status of cultural workers please get in touch.

There are also some #shareable talking points for contacting elected officials in the US and advocacy internationally, and a link in my profile to a vetted list of places to donate to internally displaced people and volunteer to help refugees (e.g. pro bono legal services, translation, welcome wagon).

Also, if you lead an institution and can sponsor at-risk migrants, please start a serious conversation in your institution about how to do it, and consult @atriskartistsfor models and resources. To donate specifically to help Afghan artists: @aaawa_art#afghanistan@afghanrefugees#artistsatrisk
