Outrage has trailed the detention of 6 protesters who dared stage a walk at the #Lekkitollgate to mark the 120th day of the killing of #EndSARS protesters.
On the 20th of October, 2020, armed military men allegedly opened fire on unarmed Nigerian youths, killing some and injury many.
The 6 youths arrested on Saturday for staging the 120 days of the killings include: Victoria Oniru, Tokunbo, Tunde Abbas, Leon, Omolara Alagbala and Adekunle.
They had gathered at Victoria Island when men of the Lagos State Police Command from Maroko Police Station swooped in on them and arrested all 6 of them.
Reports say they were taken to to the Adeniji Adele Police Station and later transferred to the Panti Station.
The Eti-Osa Bar Forum Legal Aid Clinic and Situation Room for #Occupylekki has demanded the immediate release of all 6 protesters.
An excerpt of the statement from the #120thDayMemorial organisers reads:
“We condemn in particular the role of the Maroko Police Station, which have become notorious since 20th day of October 2020 for police brutality and violation of fundamental human rights.
“We are also no less surprised that the Adeniji Adele Police Station, which is ‘formally’ the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad is still the custodial centre for the arrested Memorial Workers. Indeed, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad is alive, well and kicking.
“We hereby demand the immediate release of the Memorial Walkers and call on everyone to call the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, CP Odumosu to demand their release.”
