The parents of the recently released kidnapped students of the Federal University, Gusau have expressed their joy at being reunited with their daughters after seven months of captivity.
The students were abducted on Thursday, September 21, 2023 after armed bandits stormed their private hostels in Gidan Dawa, a community hosting female students of the university.
Giving an update, Dr. Ibrahim Maiunguwa, the father of one of the victims, confirmed to Daily Trust that his daughter was among the students rescued by the military troops.
According to him, “My daughter is among the rescued students. She called me on the phone immediately they were rescued. She called me when the soldiers were boarding them on the vehicles in Tsafe.
“Also, when they reached Kaduna State, she called again around 1:00am. AlhamduLillah for the development. We thanked God they are still alive. We are really happy about their release.
“It is not an easy experience for both the parents and the victims. These girls have been in captivity for seven months and now they are reuniting with their families. We thanked God,” he said.
Dr. Maiunguwa said the students were conveyed to Abuja to meet with the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other government officials before reuniting with their respective families.
Also, speaking to Daily Trust, Alhaji Muhammad Malami, father of another student said he had spoken to his daughter shortly after they were released from captivity.
“She called me on the phone on their way to Abuja and she also called this morning (Monday). I was so excited yesterday (Sunday) when I heard the voice of my daughter. I prayed rigorously for their return and Allah has answered my prayer.
“We appreciate the federal government, the Nigerian Army and other security agencies as well as individuals who in one way or the other contributed to the successful rescue of our daughters.
“We and our daughters suffered in silence for seven months but Alhamdu Lillah, today, Allah has wiped out tears, our daughters have returned to us safely. Sincerely speaking, we went through serious trauma, but we thanked God they alive and we will see each other,” he added
