The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Worldwide, Pastor E A Adeboye finds it ridiculous that the Federal Government plans to regulate social media use in Nigeria.
He describes as laughable, the move by the government to adopt China’s method in dealing with the issue.
While delivering a sermon at the RCCG headquarters on Sunday titled “Better Days Ahead,” he advised that government should only ensure that contents posted on social media are genuine.
Pastor Adeboye’s message was delivered by the Assistant General Overseer (Admin and Personnel) and member of the church’s governing council.
According to him, China’s model will not work in Nigeria considering that the variables are totally different.
Pastor Adeboye said that “the best the government can do is to ensure that the news being carried through the social media is genuine but to want to replicate what is happening in China here in Nigeria is laughable and would not be possible here.”
The recent peaceful #EndSARS protest was effectively coordinated by the youths of Nigeria through the use of social media.
Unfortunately, the protest was marred on what is now described as Black Tuesday by men of the Nigerian army who shot, wounded and killed scores of the youths.
