A video of women sleeping outside a hospital ward at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital has attracted the ire of the pubic.
The women were found sleeping on the are floor without mattresses or mosquito nets.
The new born babies were not seen on the floor. Arise News this morning says the University has countered the video saying that the incident never happened.
They say that those found on the floor were relatives of sick patients who insist on hanging around their sick relatives. For them, provisions were not made by the hospital.
The incident also points to the fact that Nigeria is in dire need of improved heath care. This is further revealed by visits to most hospitals.
The pathetic scenes during such visits actually reveal new-born babies on plastic chairs while the mothers sleep on makeshift benches or on mats on the bare floor.
The walk way is covered now. I stayed there for two months when I had a preterm baby referred there. Most mothers slept outside the cool and raining nights because they could not afford the 2100 per week lodge charged. The mothers lodge has limited 12 beds only. I slept outside the first night because there was no available bed space at the Lodge.. I cried and shivered till day break. I met other mothers who have been sleeping outside there for months. Its was a very sad and painfull experience that I will never forget. I thank God that I left with my baby alive.
Thanks for the details. Thank God you came out safe.
Everything is explained step by step. I loved the examples used 🙂
Very insightful…… I am enthralled by such eye opener, thanks and keep it up.
