PDP Begins Reconciliation Moves with Obi Ahead of 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has began reconciliation efforts to bring back the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

All included in the moves is former members as the party have declared that a northerner cannot win the presidency in 2027.

According to PDP stalwarts, thoughts of a northerner vying for the party’s presidential ticket before 2031 should be abandoned. The announcement followed a meeting held at Chief Bode George’s office in Lagos on Monday, attended by party leaders, officers, and a group of national mobilisers led by Iteh Ubon.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, George said the Labour Party is limited and that it lacks the necessary structure to secure a national election victory. He proposed that Obi consider a return to the PDP, stating, “The Labour Party doesn’t have the root. The LP came out of anger, it doesn’t have the kind of root we have. LP is a wind.”

Speaking further, Chief George said that “While I hold no animosity towards the North and even have close friends there, PDP members must recognise this reality before it’s too late. A PDP member from the South must be our candidate, and we must unite behind them to defeat the APC in 2027. Until 2031, nobody from the North should even consider running for our party’s presidential ticket. It’s time for the true elders of our party to speak up and face the truth.”
