The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has denied receiving $150 million or any form of financial funding from the diaspora for his presidential ambition.
The former governor of Anambra State on Tuesday disclosed that his campaign team did not receive a $150m donation.
This is coming after a group identified as Tinubu-Shettima Connect charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify Obi over the alleged donation.
According to the group, the alleged donation for Obi’s presidential ambition violates the Electoral Act on campaign funding.
Obi, however, while addressing some Nigerians in London, described the allegations as mere speculation.
The presidential candidate noted that he is not after their financial support, but what the Nigerians in the diaspora have to offer the country.
The former 2019 PDP vice presidential candidate further stated that Nigeria needs such people to turn the country around.
Obi noted that every country that was transformed was achieved through the help of people in the diaspora.
Speaking on the aim of his meetings with Nigerians in diaspora, Obi said he is meeting with them for them to be involved in the Nigerian electoral process.
He added that the country would be transformed if Nigerians in the diaspora believed in the country and brought their resources.
Obi further stated that the 2023 general elections should be based on character, competence, capacity and determination and not ethnicity and religion.
