Peter Obi, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, has demanded a retraction from Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the President, who accused him of being behind the nationwide protest being planned for August.
Speaking through his lawyer,Alex Ejesieme, SAN of the MADIBA Chambers, Obi said that the allegation which was widely published in social and mainstream media and read by many within and outside the country maligned his hard-earned reputation as a man who indulges in violence when all his antecedents are vivid that he abhors violence even in the face of extreme provocation.
“It’s our client’s conviction that the publication was a calculated plot to demean, ridicule, humiliate and embarrass him by the estimation of every right thinking member of the society“
Bayo Onanuga had stated on July 20, 2024, that Obi’s supporters were planning mayhem and that Obi should be held responsible for anarchy.
Obi’s counsel has given Onanuga 72 hours to issue an unreserved apology in at least four national dailies, citing the harm caused by the allegation and the outpouring of support from well-wishers worldwide.
