A photo of a male National Youth Service Corps ( NYSC ) member looking subdued and kneeling before his Local Government Inspector (LGI) has sparked outrage online with many Nigerians condemning the act as intimidation and abuse of power.
The controversial photo, shared by a Facebook user, Waltino, on Sunday, March 16, has stirred heated debates about the treatment of corps members.
In his caption, he hinted at the struggles corps members face, he wrote,“This is what we are passing through but if we talk now.”
Social media users have reacted strongly to the image, questioning why a graduate should be subjected to that extent of humiliation.
Some have called it an outright display of bullying, while others argue that the NYSC has lost its purpose and needs urgent reform.
The backlash comes on the heels of another NYSC-related controversy involving a female corps member in Lagos who criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over rising inflation and economic hardship.
She alleged that the NYSC board threatened her after her comments went viral.
